Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Human Resources Generalist at Winston-Salem State University is responsible for delivering comprehensive HR services across talent acquisition, position management, benefits administration, and HR systems support. This role manages the full recruitment lifecycle for staff, temporary employees, and federal work-study students, ensuring compliance with university, state, and federal policies. The Generalist leads classification and compensation reviews, including SHRA to EHRA conversions, market analyses, and FLSA determinations to support equity and competitiveness.
In addition, the HR Generalist coordinates benefits administration in partnership with the UNC System Benefits Shared Services Center, facilitating employee support and leading campus-wide benefits events. As the campus subject matter expert in PeopleAdmin, the Generalist provides system training and troubleshooting, ensures data integrity, and manages HR reporting and service requests through the ticketing system. This position plays a key role in supporting HR initiatives, maintaining strong employee relationships, and driving continuous improvement across HR operations.
Preferred Years Experience,Skills, Training , Education:
- 4 - 5 years' related experience of Human Resources
- Experience in a higher education or public sector HR environment.
- Familiarity with HR systems such as PeopleAdmin, Banner, or equivalent platforms.
- Experience conducting training sessions and leading system implementations or enhancements.
- Experience managing HR service ticketing systems or similar platforms.
- Experience in position management processes, including SHRA to EHRA conversions.
- Experience managing temporary and federal work-study student employment.
- Professional HR certification (e.g., PHR, SHRM-CP) is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with HRIS systems (experience with specific systems is a plus).
- Understanding HR principles, laws, and regulations (training or coursework in HR is beneficial).
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities.
