Industry Relations Advisor (Temporary)

Ohlone College is seeking a resourceful professional with a strong background in workforce and/or job development, business relations, and event management. The ideal candidate will excel in employer engagement and outreach, establishing and maintaining partnerships that connect the college with local industries. They will have a proven track record in planning, organizing, and executing events that connect job seekers, students, and alumni with employment opportunities, such as employer orientations and career fairs, while supporting the on-the-job training (OJT) program. This is a temporary position for 6-9 months at 35-40 hours/week, with an option to extend based on grant requirements and budget.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducts outreach (in-person and online) using marketing tools like social media to attract employers, businesses, students, alumni, and community job seekers.
  • Coordinates the On-the-Job Training (OJT) Program, engaging employers to establish Master Agreements and provide ongoing support.
  • Deploys programming to support employer talent acquisition, business advising, and training.
  • Supports development of policies, procedures, and programs relevant to the position.
  • Develops and implements employer and entrepreneur engagement activities, including orientations, career fairs, seminars, and forums.
  • Establishes and maintains partnerships with small businesses, corporations, non-profits, and government entities for education, workforce, and economic development.
  • Promotes institutional brand through community engagement, memberships in trade organizations, and public speaking.
  • Supports the Junior Leadership Academy (JLA) Program with micro-internships and workshops.
  • Develops internships and work sites for Federal Workforce Programs like WIOA.
  • Prepares and maintains reporting related to grants, contracts, and projects.
  • Provides business consultations, workshops, and events for job creation and retention.
  • Reviews economic development reports and labor market trends.
  • Creates and conveys demographics about students, alumni, and the business community.
  • Evaluates and approves employers and job postings in the Career Center database; updates website and social media.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to and respect for diverse backgrounds, and supports equity-minded practices.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge Of

  • Hiring practices, including sourcing, recruiting, resume reviewing, and interviewing.
  • Networking, marketing, and business development.
  • Local business and sector trends.
  • Education, workforce, and economic development resources.
  • Applicable employment laws and regulations.

Skills To

  • Operate a computer and office equipment.
  • Use CRM and CSM software.
  • Develop workshop curriculum and plan events.
  • Interpret and explain rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Provide business consultations and workshops.

Ability To

  • Conduct outreach to community members and organizations.
  • Work independently with little direction.
  • Work collaboratively with the Career Center team.
  • Maintain data, records, and files.
  • Prioritize and complete tasks efficiently.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Analyze situations and adopt effective actions.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in business, human resources, communications, or a similar field; OR two (2) years of relevant experience in career/job development. Must demonstrate responsiveness to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable Qualifications

Experience with Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act or other federal workforce grants.

Physical Demands and Environmental Elements

This position requires abilities for a standard office setting, including standing/sitting for prolonged periods, with reasonable accommodations for disabilities. Work is primarily in an indoor office environment.
