Job Summary:

The University of Colorado Hospital is seeking a dedicated and skilled Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our inpatient lung transplant team. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to care for lung transplant patients both during their initial hospitalization and throughout their lifetime when they require readmission. As part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, the APP will work alongside transplant pulmonologists, surgeons, pharmacists, social workers, and dietitians to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care. This role requires care of medically complex patients, post-surgical patients, and critically ill patients. This position focuses on supporting patients through their recovery and ongoing care, making a meaningful impact on their health and quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Comprehensive Patient Management: Provide direct inpatient care for lung transplant patients, including pre-transplant evaluation, perioperative management, and post-transplant care.
  • Rounding & Collaboration: Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds, develop treatment plans, and implement evidence-based interventions.
  • ICU Consults: Evaluate and manage transplant patients in the ICU in collaboration with the critical care teams.
  • Clinical Decision-Making: Interpret diagnostic tests, adjust immunosuppressive therapies, and manage transplant-related complications under the guidance of transplant pulmonologists.
  • Patient & Family Education: Counsel patients and their families on post-transplant expectations, medication adherence, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Documentation & Communication: Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (Epic), communicate effectively with consulting teams, and provide thorough handoffs.
  • Process Improvement & Education: Participate in quality improvement initiatives, protocol development, and provide education to nursing staff and trainees.

Work Location:
Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Master's and/or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
  • National board certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP, AGACNP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C)
  • Active and unrestricted license to practice in Colorado (or eligibility to obtain)
  • DEA license or eligibility to obtain
  • BLS and ACLS certification
  • Minimum of one year of experience in transplant.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in solid organ transplant, pulmonary medicine, hospital medicine, or critical care
  • Excellent clinical reasoning, communication, and teamwork skills

$112,528 to $137,634
