Position Summary
The Department of Environmental Sciences (DES) at Rutgers University invites applications for a full-time Non-Tenure Track Teaching Instructor. The primary responsibilities of this role are to teach and coordinate undergraduate Environmental Science lecture courses in both online and in-person formats. Initial assignments include multiple sections of Introduction to Environmental Science (11:375:101). Additional courses may include:
- Environmental Chemistry
- Environmental Biology
- Environmental Fate and Transport
- Careers in Environmental Sciences
- Water and Wastewater Treatment
- Other courses as needed
The successful candidate will also provide mentorship and academic advising, contribute to curriculum development, and engage in departmental, school, and university service as appropriate.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Undergraduate teaching experience in Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering, both online and in-person.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with active learning, inclusive course design, and contemporary pedagogical approaches.
- Commitment to mentoring and advising diverse student populations.
Responsibilities
- Develop and coordinate course syllabi and materials.
- Deliver engaging lectures and facilitate online and in-person learning.
- Assess student performance and provide timely feedback.
- Mentor and advise undergraduate students in Environmental Science programs.
- Participate in professional development to enhance teaching effectiveness.
- Engage in service to the department, school, and university community.
