Detailed Position Information
The College of Education seeks qualified candidates for a rolling pool of Clinical Supervisors to support teacher candidates during internship, practicum, and field experiences. Supervisors serve as liaisons between the university and P–12 school partners, providing coaching, observation, and evaluation of teacher candidates in clinical settings.
Appointments are made on an as-needed basis, depending on program and placement demands.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct formal and informal observations of teacher candidates
- Provide timely, constructive feedback aligned with program and state standards
- Collaborate with cooperating teachers and university faculty
- Complete required documentation and evaluation reports
- Support candidates in meeting professional expectations and growth goals
- Report any issues and concerns to designated department coordinators, department heads and OCE director.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to effectively coach adult learners
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with university and P–12 partners
- Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple placements
Appointment Terms
- This is a part-time, temporary, as-needed position
- Candidates will remain in the applicant pool and may be contacted as supervision needs arise
- Placement assignments may vary by semester, location, and program area
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet one of the following:
- Master’s degree or higher in an education teaching field from an accredited institution OR
- Bachelor’s degree in an education teaching field from an accredited institution and substantial professional experience, defined as:
- Minimum of 5 years of successful P–12 classroom teaching experience, AND
- Demonstrated leadership experience, such as:
- Instructional coach, mentor teacher, or lead teacher
- Department chair or grade-level team leader
- Curriculum development or district initiative leadership
- National Board Certification, teacher of the year recognition, or similar distinction
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience supervising, mentoring, or coaching teacher candidates or novice teachers
- Experience working with diverse student populations and school settings
- Familiarity with state standards and educator preparation program expectations (e.g., Alabama State Department of Education guidelines)
- Strong interpersonal, coaching, and evaluation skills
