Appointment: Regular, part-time (.36 FTE), 11 month position.

Work Location:
This position is based in Tacoma, WA, and is an on-campus role only.

Position Summary:

Provide leadership for the support of diverse, historically marginalized and minoritized student communities (specific to race, ethnicity, first-generation, socioeconomic status, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, documentation status, disability) and related student organizations.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Implementing and supporting intercultural programming, workshops, and training for students, working closely with other departments and offices responsible for diversity, inclusion, community building and belonging to support synergy of efforts.
  • Support historically marginalized and minoritized students and facilitate social justice learning and advocacy via workshop and training development
  • Oversee and monitor daily operations of the Student Diversity Center and Social Justice Center.
  • Support the design and implementation of annual campus-wide events and celebrations related to social and racial justice, including but not limited to: diversity-centered Admissions events; Annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration; Japanese Day of Remembrance Commemoration; Lavender Graduates Celebration; Graduates of Color Celebration; First-Generation Graduates Recognition, Indigenous Graduates Celebration .
  • Collaborate on the implementation of institutional retention efforts with emphasis on support of students identified as people of color, first-generation, underrepresented socioeconomic status, with minoritized sexual and gender identities, and other historically marginalized populations.
  • Actively develop supportive, mentoring relationships for individual students, meeting regularly with leaders of racial, ethnic, LGBTQ+, and social justice-oriented student organizations to provide support and programming assistance.
  • Provide support for planning of fund-raising events for scholarships.
  • Other duties as needed and/or assigned by the Vice President for Institutional Equity and Diversity and Director of Intercultural Engagement

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Prefer individuals with some graduate level training or currently pursuing graduate training in a DEI or student development related field.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with diverse populations, including racial and ethnically minoritized students, the LGBTQ+ community, neurodivergent populations and/or individuals of diverse faiths or spirituality in support of academic and social/emotional success.
  • Experience working in support and advocacy of diverse, underrepresented, and minoritized college student populations.
  • Ability to exercise a considerable degree of independent judgment and action.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

The anticipated rate for this position is $23.35 Decisions about starting salaries are made based on the extent and relatedness of the candidate's education and experience and on internal equity and market considerations.

This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
