The Klatt Shaw Lab is seeking a highly motivated Lab Coordinator to join our team. Our research focuses on understanding how cells within the zebrafish spinal cord support and drive regeneration after spinal cord injury. Using genetic and molecular tools in combination with neural injury models, our ultimate goal is to identify potential therapies for human spinal cord injuries.
The Lab Coordinator will assist the Principal Investigator (PI) and lab team in conducting experiments, maintaining laboratory operations, and managing the zebrafish colony. This position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on research experience, contribute to meaningful scientific discoveries, and receive mentorship from the PI.
This is a Limited Term role ending June 30, 2026 with the possibility of extension.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct wet lab experiments, including tissue preparation for histological analysis, immunofluorescence, microscopy, RNA expression analysis, and other techniques as needed.
- Assist in zebrafish care, including handling, breeding, genotyping, and colony management.
- Perform administrative tasks such as ordering supplies, maintaining databases, and ensuring laboratory safety compliance.
- Support general laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
- Maintain and update the laboratory website (WordPress).
- Analyze data, perform statistical analysis, prepare graphs, and present findings at lab meetings and seminars.
- Collaborate effectively with PI and lab members on ongoing projects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific field.
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience working in a research laboratory.
- Strong scientific knowledge relevant to the field of study.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Clear and professional communication skills (written and verbal).
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with zebrafish or other animal models.
- Familiarity with molecular biology techniques, imaging, and/or histological analysis.
- Basic experience with web management platforms such as WordPress.
