JOB SUMMARY:

Provides university-wide complex technical support in support of faculty and student research. Operates, maintains, and repairs sophisticated research instruments. Designs, fabricates and modifies complex research apparatuses. Consults with graduate students and faculty in the design of experiments or equipment to gain the best use of the instruments available. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

• 45% - Essential - Equipment Development: Directs and performs the design, fabrication and modification of complex electro-mechanical laboratory equipment.
• 25% - Essential - Equipment Maintenance: Performs the operation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of complex electro-mechanical laboratory equipment. Provides assistance, coordination and oversight to external service engineers in the repair and installation of laboratory equipment.
• 20% - Essential - Technical Consultation: Provides technical consultation to faculty and graduate students in the areas of materials joining and metal fabrication techniques. Provides technical support to the Chief Operating Officer's role relating to classroom and research lab infrastructure projects. Trains and oversees faculty and graduate students in the use of systems.
• 10% - Essential - Inventory: Maintains inventory of tools, parts, and other instruments and supplies used in Machining and Technical Services (MTS).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Vocational or Technical Training 1. Work Experience - 1+ years.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Fundamental Job Knowledge - Fundamental working knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures and ability to apply in varied situations. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No Supervisory Duties - Not responsible for supervising employees. BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES: No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget. WORK SCHEDULE: Standard Hours: 37.5. COMPENSATION INFORMATION: Expected Pay Range: $47,588.00 - $70,000.00. Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines. ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL: Normal Operations. Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations. JOB LOCATION: Clemson, SC.
