Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) announces an opportunity to work in the evening and weekend as the new Lead Security Guard.
The Lead Security Guard will enhance safety and security coverage during evenings and weekends for students residing on campus. This position will enforce applicable rules and regulations governing vehicle use, parking, building or other facility access, and breaches in physical security controls (locks, gates, electronic security systems, and barriers).
Evening shifts are expected to be 4:30pm to 1:00am Wednesday evening through Monday morning, hours may vary according to the needs of the department. APPLICATION PROCESS: After review, suitable applicants will be invited by phone or email on or around Wednesday, October 15, 2025 to participate in a skills assessment. Successful candidates will then be interviewed by a committee of approximately 3-5 individuals; these interviews are tentatively scheduled for October 27, 2025. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an interview. LTCC reserves the right to return to the applicant pool at any point during the recruitment process.
COMPENSATION: Salary Range: LTCC offers a competitive compensation package that includes a starting placement salary of $52,493 to $57,948 annually, dependent on education and experience. There is potential to reach $67,201 annually, through step advancement plus longevity when appropriate. In addition to base salary, this position qualifies for extra bilingual (Spanish), masters or doctorate pay.

Several plan options maintain a zero monthly premium cost from the employee and include full coverage of a gold-level medical plan that, on average, covers 80% of healthcare expenses for a standard population. LTCC also matches 27% of an eligible employees salary and contributes it into a CalPERS pension account for qualifying employees.
Work-Life Balance: This position is 40 hours per week and 12 months per year, including summer and winter hours. Evening shifts are expected to be 4:30pm to 1:00am Wednesday evening through Monday morning, hours may vary according to the needs of the department. This position is eligible for overtime compensation (non-exempt). LTCC provides a generous leave package including 17 paid holidays per year plus 12 days vacation (with the potential to reach 24 days through years of service) and 12 days sick leave per year.

Description: Definition: Under the direction of the Director of Safety & Security, facilitates and leads in the operations and activities related to security, ensure protection for all students, District staff and the public; assists in administering district policies and procedures related to safety and security.
Representative Duties: Enforce applicable rules and regulations governing vehicle use, parking, building or other facility access, and breaches in physical security controls (locks, gates, electronic security systems, and barriers). Ability to write clear, comprehensive and concise reports using a structure format to capture full incident details. Monitor campus through the utilization of physical patrols of grounds, buildings, and other areas of responsibility. Inform employees about policies, procedures, and management practices as applicable. Monitor security cameras, access control systems and other security-related technology. Assist in activities related to the campus safety and security operations. Utilize de-escalation practices across campus when responding to campus incidents. Identify and correct hazards when encountered on campus. Maintain a daily log of irregular occurrences such as property damage, security calls, and other unusual occurrences. Assist in the implementation of best practices in campus safety and security to ensure the consistent and systematic fair, just, and impartial treatment of all individuals, including individuals who belong to underserved communities that have been denied such treatment. Provide a continuous level of customer service in support of campus staff and activities. Assist in promoting transparency and collaboration in campus safety and security to foster positive relationships between the campus community, safety officers, security guards, and South Tahoe Police Department while supporting a welcoming campus climate. Integrate the centrality of student well-being and success in the campus safety and security culture to develop student-centered policies and practices that result in campus safety officers and security guards playing a role in student success. Center diversity, equity and inclusion principles in campus safety and security to develop a campus culture and practice that reflects a commitment to campus goals of anti-racism and multi-culturalism. Respond to incidents and emergencies on campus; review all documented campus injury reports and refer appropriately; assist in the investigation of industrial accidents; promote adherence to established safety procedures; conduct safety assessments within District departments; conduct safety trainings; conduct campus awareness programs and presentations on safety, security, and crime prevention. Assist in the coordination of emergency response activities, including emergencies involving medical situations, hazardous materials, and natural disasters. Ensure campus is prepared for emergency responses including maintaining current emergency responses, emergency backpacks and first aid kits. Coordinate preventative measures to ensure early identification of potential for violence or crimes involving District students or staff. Participate in all disaster preparedness activities, help coordinate campus emergency drills, manage communications in time of disaster and implement the Emergency Management Plan. Gather statistics for the federally mandated compliance of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. Establish and maintain periodic inspection program of building and facilities to assure compliance with applicable fire, safety, security codes and regulations. Enforce the California Vehicle Code, Penal Code, Education Code, Labor Code, Lake Tahoe Community College District and College regulations on the campus and other facilities used by the College. Assist in the implementation of the Districts parking program(s) including the enforcement of laws, regulations, and procedures. Assist in the maintenance of effective traffic control processes. Prepare and file safety, criminal, traffic, incident, and other departmental reports. Participate in District safety committee and facilities council meetings, as necessary. Provide technical expertise, information, and assistance to the assigned functions; assist in the formulation and development of policies, procedures and programs. Foster an environment that embraces diversity, integrity, trust, and respect. Serve on a variety of District committees as requested. Participate in district all staff events including but not limited to all campus team building day, convocation, state of the college address, senior day, and graduation.

Education and Experience: Employment Standards: Any combination equivalent to: Associate degree in related field and three years of experience comparable to the position. Knowledge of: The mission of the California Community Colleges and community college programs. Pertinent federal, state, local, and district laws and ordinances including applicable sections of the California Penal Code, California Vehicle Code, State Education Code, Clery Act, health and safety code, business and professional standards, and laws pertaining to the use of force. Procedures of psychology and crowd control and emergency evacuation, and investigative techniques and practices. Investigative techniques and principles and procedures of record keeping and report writing. Facilities technology related to security. Effective oral and written communication techniques. Ability to: Write clear, comprehensive and concise reports using a structure format to capture full incident details. Conduct threat assessments so as not to precipitate an unnecessary, unreasonable, or disproportionate use of force by placing themselves or others in undue jeopardy. Work cooperatively within a team environment and maintain effective working relationships. Work effectively with local, state, and federal public service agencies. Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Additional Requirement (Licensure/Certification): CA State Guard Card (if not held, to be obtained within three months of hire). CPR and First Aid certification (if not held, to be obtained within three months of hire). Working Environment: Indoor/Outdoor Office environment.
