Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position in Media Effects/Social Media, beginning August 2026. Candidates must hold a graduate or terminal degree in Communication, Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Arts, Film Studies, or a closely related field by the time of appointment. This position will be shared between the Department of Communication, Media, & Culture (COMM) and Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS), with the faculty member officially housed in the Department of Communication, Media, & Culture. The successful candidate will support both units by teaching foundational courses in each program.
The standard teaching load is five courses per semester, with instruction delivered in face-to-face, hybrid, or online formats. Occasional evening or weekend classes may be required. Primary responsibilities include teaching introductory lower-level courses in either department (e.g., COMM 150: Media, Self & Society; SMED 101: Social Media Practice & Study), along with the opportunity to design and teach a limited number of upper-level electives in areas related to social media or communication, depending on student interest and departmental needs.

Job Duties
- Teaches students in the classroom, laboratory, and/or studio.
- Prepares content, syllabi, and University Moodle/curricular site for each course and/or lab assigned each semester. Communicates to students after reviewing assignments. Calculates and assigns grades (e.g., mid-term and final) through established procedures listed in the Faculty Manual and University catalog. Tracks and reports absences as directed by the Office of the Registrar.
- Posts and holds regular office hours each week per College and University guidelines. Engages in University-related activities including committee assignments, meetings, ceremonies, events and scholarly pursuits as prescribed in the Faculty Manual.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
