Position Description
The Environmental and Health Sciences Department at Spelman College invites applications for a part-time Microbiology Lab Instructor to support the Advances in Medical Microbiology course beginning August 2025 (Fall semester). We are seeking a dedicated educator who excels at facilitating laboratory learning and is committed to student-centered teaching in microbiology.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for instructing and overseeing undergraduate laboratory sessions, preparing laboratory materials, ensuring lab safety and compliance, and evaluating student performance. This course is content-intensive and writing-focused, designed to mimic the rigor of a graduate-level microbiology experience. All courses will be taught in-person.
The department has a strong and proven reputation for educating and training women of African descent to excel in STEM fields. Applicants should demonstrate a passion for undergraduate education and laboratory pedagogy.
This position is contingent upon the availability of sufficient funding.
Qualifications
A master's degree in microbiology, immunology, biomedical sciences, or a closely related field is required.
Prior experience teaching or supervising undergraduate microbiology labs.
Familiarity with standard microbiology techniques such as aseptic technique, culturing, staining, serial dilution, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
