Brief Summary of Work for this Position:
The primary focus for this full-time lecturer position is literacy-related courses within the Elementary Education program; additional teaching and service within the Language and Literacy (MEd) program may be possible, depending on the candidate's qualifications. This position will begin either August 2026, Spring 2027, or Fall 2027. Start date will depend on when a qualified candidate has been selected and is able to start the position.
The duties include teaching and service. Specifically, the instructor will:
- Teach literacy-related courses for undergraduate, Master's, and/or licensure students in various delivery modes including face-to-face, online, and hybrid, across both daytime and evening time slots
- Collaborate with colleagues in the program, department, and university, including laboratory school settings and/or other field-based sites
- Assist in ongoing program revision and assessment
- Provide service to the profession, university, college, department, community, and local public schools
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Master's Degree in Literacy, Reading, or closely related field by August 2026
- Minimum of 3 years of K-6 literacy teaching experience
- Evidence of (or potential for) successful university teaching in face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid learning environments
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Preference will be given to candidates with:
- Advanced standing in the field as demonstrated through a terminal degree (PhD, EdD) in reading/literacy or a closely related field and/or National Board Certification of Teaching
- Five or more years of teaching experience in grades K-5
- Teaching, and/or service experiences centered in culturally sustaining pedagogies or other methods of making literacy education accessible and relevant to all students.
- Experience working as a literacy specialist/interventionist or literacy coach
- Experience building and supporting school-university partnerships, including teaching field-based and/or clinic-based K-6 literacy methods courses
- Experience teaching in / working with underserved and/or multilingual communities
- Experience successfully responding to and navigating literacy policy
- Experience navigating and/or supporting others with professional performance assessments such as edTPA and/or NBCT
- Knowledge of and experience using multiple models of reading
- Eligibility for NC teaching license
