Schedule: Sunday – Thursday, 6:00 PM – 2:00 AM (adjusted hours during breaks/summer)

Pius XII Memorial Library is seeking a dedicated Library Evening Associate to join our Access and Delivery Services team. This vital role ensures smooth evening operations, supports interlibrary loan services, and manages billing communications with patrons.
JOB SUMMARY
The Library Evening Associate of Access and Delivery Services at Pius XII Memorial Library at St. Louis University focuses on ensuring high level of service to the patrons at the circulation desk. The Library Evening Associate acts as the main liaison between MOBIUS, SLU Link libraries for Pius XII Memorial Library and handles all library billing, and serves as a backup for Inter Library Loan during the evening hours.
The Working hours for this position are Sunday – Thursday, 6:00 pm – 2:00 am. During breaks and summer, the shift hours will change to meet the library's operating hours.
Summer hours will typically be 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm, Monday – Friday. Aside from summer, for any other breaks, hours will typically be Monday – Friday, 10:00 am – 6:00 pm.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Service, Communication, & Problem Solving
- Perform circulation duties within Access & Delivery Services department.
- Respond to user questions, assist with basic reference and directional questions, and/or questions about databases, searching, and finding materials.
- Have a good understanding of library policies to answer questions that may arise.
- Open/or close the library building either independently or in coordination with other library staff and student employees;
- Assist with training, supervision, and evaluation of evening and weekend student assistants;
- Ensure the security of the library building and its collections.
- Collect and monitor statistics needed for operational efficiency.
Billing
- Oversee all library billing notifications to students, faculty, and staff including e-mail, print, and in-person confidential and sensitive interactions with patrons;
- Oversee all billing and replacement of lost or damaged Pius and MOBIUS items;
- Ensure that graduating students are informed about potential academic holds for unreturned items;
- Place academic holds for unreturned items.
MOBIUS & ILL
- Oversee handling of external loan requests (MOBIUS, SLU Link, Interlibrary Loan) and information queries;
- Oversees all library “holdshelf” and “in transit” loans to and from Pius Library to all MOBIUS and SLU Link libraries.
- Serve as a main liaison between MOBIUS and SLU Link libraries regarding items lost in transit and/or requested too long;
- Assist the Inter Library Loan Coordinator with borrowing, lending, and document delivery for the Inter Library Loan requests;
- Responsible for packing MOBIUS and Inter Library Loan shipment for courier pick up
Collaboration, & Professional Development
- Support the librarys mission, vision, and values.
- Contribute to the advancement of the librarys strategic plan.
- Prepare, review, maintain, and assist with a variety of related reports, records, and documents.
- Cooperate as a team member with library staff in performing any duties essential to efficient library services.
- Participate in committees and groups in support of librarys strategic plan implementation
- Participate in ongoing professional development and stays current in regard to library related practices, technology, and equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of multiple library-specific computer applications;
- Effective communication;
- Ability to interpret and address user needs;
- Ability to diffuse difficult or complicated situations;
- Ability to explain technical information and processes in a comprehensible manner;
- Ability of multitask and prioritize projects based on importance and deadlines;
- Supervisory experience.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of current (within 5 years) experience in a library;
- OR, an equivalent combination of current library experience, training, and/or education in related field;
- AND, proficiency in multiple library-specific computer applications, e.g. integrated library systems, database application, and content management systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability and willingness to contribute to the librarys mission and strategic goals.
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of the broad diversity of the university community.
- Demonstrated understanding of best practices in academic research libraries and in Access and Delivery Services.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the university community.
