Manager, Community and Donor Engagement

Job Summary:

Oversee the operations of the department’s stewardship and scholarship. Develop and maintain relationships with community members and donors with a focus on relationship building and fundraising. Manage and support fund-raising and "friend-raising" events for the LBCC Foundation. Solicit gifts from potential and ongoing donors to the LBCC Foundation with an emphasis on gifts to the scholarship program. Coordinate a full range of management tasks to support Foundation operations and administration.

Required Qualifications:

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Requires a sound working knowledge of donor relations and scholarship program administration.
  • Must have excellent relationship skills and the ability to communicate with donors, board members, students, and other key audiences, as well as all levels of college management.
  • Requires the ability to represent Foundation to college staff and wider community, and promote and communicate philanthropic giving.
  • Must have knowledge of resource development strategies and local philanthropic avenues.
  • Requires strong interpersonal skills, good writing and speaking skills and a high degree of personal integrity. The ability to establish and maintain positive and productive relationships with a diverse range of people, including those facing very serious personal challenges is essential.
  • Must have the ability to organize and administer many individual records for students and donors.
  • Must be able to serve as the point person for all manner of questions and requests related to the Foundation’s departmental funds, endowments, scholarship options and more.
  • Requires a thorough knowledge of budgetary/fiscal processes, standard office techniques, principles and practices of office management, work organization and simplification, clerical practices, and confidential record keeping.
  • Must be highly skilled in using various standard office machines, including computers and word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, and database applications.
  • Requires strong planning, organizing, customer relations, procedural management, and communication skills.
  • Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.

Education and Training:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree. Experience in lieu of a degree will be considered on a year-for-year basis.
  • Training in fundraising, planned giving or donor programs, etc., is desirable. Proven track record of planning, executing, and measuring successful fundraising strategies.
  • Experience with Project Management.
  • Deep commitment to ethics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, fundraising software, and databases.
  • Knowledge of fundraising, development, and donor engagement best practice.

Experience:

Requires a minimum of 1 year of related experience, including fundraising, donor development and annual giving. Fundraising experience in an education or non-profit setting. Experience in a higher education environment strongly preferred.

Licenses and Certificates:

A valid Oregon driver’s license and access to reliable transportation, or an equivalent means of travel that meets position needs, is required. Must meet and maintain adherence with the College’s driver screening guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer a thorough knowledge of special practices, techniques and policies associated with nonprofits and the Foundation, fundraising and scholarship operations administration, plus knowledge of campus dynamics.
  • Prefer familiarity with college operations, practices and policies as they relate to the Foundation.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Physical Skills and Abilities:

Requires learned physical skill to operate computer keyboard or other office equipment. Occasional lifting and moving of light to medium weight objects (less than 50 pounds), such as boxes of documents, bulk mailings, and set up materials for various events. Required to climb (e.g., ladder). The role also involves reading written materials and numbers, and engaging in routine verbal communication (in person or over the phone).

Working Conditions:

Work is typically performed in an office setting with little or no exposure to health and safety hazards. Requires travel to attend community and fundraising events, donor meetings, etc. Occasional evening or weekend work will be required.

Essential Duties:

  1. Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with donors to create new scholarships and grow existing funds and endowments. Develop new Foundation scholarship funds by working with scholarship donors to create a scholarship fund that legally matches the donor’s vision, criteria for eligibility, amount of award(s), etc. Develop and maintain relationships with LBCC faculty and staff who determine scholarship recipients and applicable scholarship criteria.
  2. Actively develop strategic relationships with community members, businesses and donors to identify potential resources and partnerships that increase the resources of the LBCC Foundation and further the mission and vision of Linn-Benton Community College. Meet with and present information to current donors and potential new donors to seek and appeal for financial resources and partnerships. Engage and interact with donors with a high level of integrity and preparedness so as not to damage financial relationships which in turn would lead to a decline in student and program support. Maintain confidentiality of all personal and financial interactions.
  3. Collaborate with the Senior Manager of Donor and Community Engagement to support the identification and qualification of potential capital campaign gifts.
  4. Manage a portfolio of 100-120 prospects and donors (individuals, foundations, and businesses). Initiate and strengthen relationships with donors, creating an individual plan for each.
  5. Identify and cultivate major donors from the President’s Circle group ($1,000-$10,000) through face-to-face meetings.
  6. Manage most aspects of Foundation departmental funds. Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with donors to create new departmental funds and grow existing funds and endowments. Manage the distribution of donor outreach letters and communications, and maintain files. Secure new Foundation department funds by working with donors to create funds legally aligning with the donors’ vision, amount of award, and criteria for disbursement, etc. Develop and maintain relationships with LBCC faculty and staff who determine use of funds.
  7. Attend community gatherings as a representative of LBCC and the Foundation. Engage socially and interact with attendants to share information about the college and Foundation endeavoring to develop new relationships that will lead to increased resources for students and programs.
  8. Develop and implement the Foundation’s Stewardship Plan for all fundraising campaigns, events and giving societies, including the thank-you and recognition processes which requires direct outreach to donors to maintain and/or increase financial giving levels.
  9. Conduct regular and year-end assessments of stewardship plan as well as evaluation of scholarship and departmental fund processes.
  10. Communicate with community donors, board members, community bodies, staff and the public. Acts as a liaison and representative of Foundation, answering inquiries and providing information and assistance requiring detailed knowledge of rules, procedures, policies and activities.
  11. Adhere to and interpret as needed, Foundation policies, procedures and by-laws, as well as all LBCC policies and procedures.
  12. Perform other related duties or special projects as assigned.
