Description:
Reporting to the Director of Special Collections, the Manager of Special Collections Education & Community Engagement expands awareness, access, and use of the Axinn Library's unique archival and special collections. The Manager designs and delivers educational programs, fosters partnerships with campus and community groups, and promotes the collections as vital cultural and historical resources. This position requires occasional evening and weekend work for events, as well as some travel for outreach.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Develops and implements outreach strategies that connect Hofstra and local communities with Special Collections.
- Builds partnerships with educators, community organizations, and cultural groups to support collaborative projects and initiatives.
- Designs and leads workshops, tours, and instruction sessions for Hofstra students and external groups that use primary source materials, rare books, and other special materials.
- Creates promotional and educational content, including exhibits, blog posts, and social media.
- Tracks participation data, evaluates programs, and assists with grant writing and reporting.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in education, public history, library science, cultural studies, or a related field required.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of relevant experience.
- Experience with community engagement, education, or programming in a library, museum, or archival setting.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Familiarity with the preservation and handling of archival materials and rare books.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse groups and adapt programs to community needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Long Island and New York history preferred.
- Experience with digital storytelling technologies.
- Proficiency in a second language and experience working with multilingual communities.
