Starting Salary Range: $70,559 (Class II, Step 6) - $97,415 (VII, Step 10) Annually for a 10-month contract

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Cuyamaca College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Math Professor to join our dynamic Math Department. This position focuses on providing high-quality mathematics instruction, supporting student pathways in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), and fostering a learning environment rooted in equity and inclusion.

The ideal candidate will teach math courses, including introductory and major-level classes, with enthusiasm and a commitment to inclusive, student-centered pedagogy. They will participate in curriculum development efforts, integrating culturally relevant materials and equity-focused strategies to close achievement gaps and promote student success especially as it relates to AB 705/1705. This role will directly impact students' success, transferability to a university, and their access to high-demand careers in STEM.

Interested candidates should also be passionate about participating in departmental and college-wide initiatives aimed at improving access and success for all students. This includes building connections between the Math Department and the UMOJA and Puente programs at Cuyamaca to inspire students to choose career pathways in STEM. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to advancing Cuyamaca College's mission, vision, and values through active participation in committees and shared governance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's in mathematics or applied mathematics OR
Bachelor's in either of the above AND Master's in statistics, physics or mathematics education OR
the equivalent

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Academic preparation to teach and develop curriculum in math for non-major and major courses.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement innovative, student-centered teaching strategies aimed at improving retention and success rates, particularly for students from underrepresented populations in STEM.
  • Teaching experience including, but not limited to, high school, community college, teaching assistant positions, and university.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate math concepts to students at all levels, including experience teaching in active, student-centered, and collaborative learning environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire and support students from historically marginalized or underrepresented populations to thrive in STEM.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues and support departmental and institutional goals.
  • Experience designing culturally relevant and equity-minded curricula responsive to the needs and interests of first-generation and historically underrepresented college students in STEM.
  • Demonstrated commitment to addressing and reducing achievement gaps in retention and success within math courses.
  • Demonstrated desire to support the overall growth and success of the Math Department, including the preparation and implementation of operational, planning, growth, and budgetary strategies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Participation in professional development activities related to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in education.
  • Proficiency in developing interdisciplinary approaches that connect math to other STEM disciplines.
  • Experience using or willingness to adopt and/or create low-cost or zero-cost (open educational) resources, to enhance student access and success.
  • Experience with, or willingness to adopt, current instructional technologies (e.g., Desmos, GeoGebra, MATLAB) and AI literacy practices to advance student access and success in an educational environment.
  • Ability to advise students on academic and career pathways in STEM programs.
