Job Summary

Performs a full range of technical and organizational videography work for academic programs. Supports faculty and instructional designers by writing, directing and editing instructional videos, including 2D and 3D animation and graphics, for online courses and programs. Supports academic needs for other multimedia content including photography. Evaluates emerging technologies in multimedia and video production. Trains student assistants in the crafts of video production and post-production, including 2D and 3D animation and motion graphics. Provides assistance in video production and post-production for CSUSB Convocation, Commencements, and other university events.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Videographer for academic programs: Assist and support faculty by recording and executing post-production, including 2D and 3D animation and graphics, for instructional videos in both classroom settings and online courses/programs. Utilize strong organizational skills to coordinate all facets of production efforts, including the dissemination and distribution of video-based instructional materials, with special attention to meeting deadlines. Accountable for project results. Maintain and keep current the database of multimedia assets for academic programs.
  • Coordinate academic multimedia production: Provide a full range of technical support for the production and post-production of instructional videos, including mini-lectures, demonstrations, tutorials, and other video-based instructional assets. Support academic needs for multimedia content including but not limited to 2D and 3D graphics, photography, and print. Collaborate with other Academic Technology & Innovation (ATI) staff as a team to support multimedia/video-related projects and live event productions. Support Extended Reality (XR) media production for 360-degree video, images, and post-production. Serve as the technical director for live event productions at campus-wide events, utilizing production switchers. Create 3D animations and motion graphics using Blender and Unreal Engine. Evaluate emerging technologies in multimedia/video production.
  • Maintain the quality and condition of multimedia equipment: Ensure all equipment necessary is maintained and in working condition. Ability to understand operating procedures and underlying technology to effectively troubleshoot equipment and systems. Report if the equipment is at risk of failing to the supervisor as needed.
  • Training of student assistants: Teach and train student assistants in the crafts of video production and post-production including 2D and 3D graphics and animation. Provide lead work direction to students/assistants in graphics design and photography for instructional support. Provide assistance in video production for Convocation, Commencement, and other high-profile university events as designated by the Office of the President, the Vice President for Information Technology Services (ITS), and/or the Vice President for University Advancement. Perform other classification duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of related professional or technical experience required.

Required Qualifications

In addition to Position Skill Level I knowledge and skill requirements, work assignments typically require: Thorough knowledge of production techniques and equipment. General knowledge of production principles and practices for instructional media. Ability to develop, create, stage and/or produce professional quality visuals and evaluate production effectiveness in meeting objectives. Strong writing skills including the ability to learn narration and continuity script writing. Working knowledge of tools for authoring interactive multimedia products delivered via a variety of synchronous and asynchronous techniques. Strong research skills and broad knowledge of resources and techniques which communicate information through multimedia productions. Ability to understand operating procedures and underlying technology in order to use and troubleshoot equipment and systems. Strong organizational skills to independently manage and coordinate all facets of production, budgets and other projects. Solid to advanced photographic capabilities, as well as photographic processing and manipulation skills. Ability to provide lead work and project direction to other staff. Ability to work with and train students involved in production projects.

Preferred Qualifications

Good understanding of camera technology, lighting, audio, and editing software. Excellent communication skills to understand the client's vision and communicate ideas. 3D modeling and animation software such as Blender and Unreal engine. Good time management to meet deadlines. Experience with live multi-camera event production preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,595.00 per month. Classification Salary Range: $4,146.00 - $7,500.00 per month. The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors. The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Position Information

Work status: Full-time/Non-Exempt/Temporary (up to one year with the possibility of further renewal). Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am - 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends. Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends. The application deadline is: August 25, 2025 at 11:55 pm (PST).
