Description
The Program in Comparative Literature at Williams College invites applications for a two-year Mellon postdoctoral position in world cinema, starting in fall 2026. We welcome applications from candidates in film and media studies, particularly those whose work spans multiple national traditions and/or multiple media. The successful candidate will join our vibrant interdisciplinary program in Comparative Literature, which brings together language and literature faculty from across the College, and will teach two courses each year (one per semester): a survey course in world cinema or an introduction to film studies, plus one additional film or media course in their area of specialization.
In addition to salary at the postdoctoral level, the fellowship provides full benefits, including health insurance. Williams College and the Program in Comparative Literature also offer a collegial and supportive environment for scholars early in their careers, with a range of professional development opportunities that include the college's First3 program as well as programming organized by the Rice Center for Teaching and the NCFDD.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree (or all requirements for the degree) completed by September 2026.
Application Instructions
Review of applications will begin on February 1, 2026 and will continue until the position is filled. There is no guarantee that applications received after this date will be reviewed.
All applications should be submitted through Interfolio at https://apply.interfolio.com/178275 and should include a curriculum vitae and a cover letter that addresses research and teaching. The cover letter should also speak to how the applicant would work effectively with a diverse population and how they would broaden the program's curricular offerings.
Questions about the search may be directed to the chair of the program, Christopher Bolton, at cbolton@williams.edu. Please include "World Cinema" in the email subject line.
