Boston University invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Professor of the Practice: Studio and/or Field Directing; multiple cameras, in the Department of Film and Television at Boston University's College of Communication.
Duties require teaching three courses per semester at the undergraduate and graduate levels plus service, which includes committee work. Department faculty are also encouraged to propose and develop new courses in their field of expertise.
This is a non-tenure track position with an initial three-year, renewable appointment. Deadline for applications is January 30, 2026. Review of materials will begin and continue until the position is filled. Proposed start date is January 1, 2027.
Compensation is highly competitive and budgeted in the range of $125,000 to $135,000 annually, depending on experience. Boston University offers a comprehensive benefits package, which adds significantly to the employee's total compensation.
Required Skills:
We seek a colleague with a professional track record and significant body of practical work in television directing using multiple cameras for linear television and/or streaming platforms. Familiarity with visual effects and AI-supported tools is considered a plus, but not a requirement. This position includes teaching directing of scripted and/or unscripted content using multiple cameras at both the introductory and advanced levels.
Candidates should also have a deep interest in television and streaming industry programming trends as well as an ability to construct courses that reflect those trends and innovations while maintaining the highest educational standards. The position may also require teaching existing production courses at the introductory and intermediate levels. An advanced degree and background in teaching at the university level is preferred.
