Multimedia Content Producer, YSPH
Overview
The Multimedia Content Producer will join the talented Yale School of Public Health Office of Communications. The Multimedia Content Producer will produce and coordinate content and projects that support our school’s communications and marketing efforts. They will lead the team’s photo and video work and design and maintain the brand identity of collateral including, but not limited to, brochures, reports, newsletters, social media posts, flyers, publications, and web graphics. They will also support the implementation of marketing campaigns and support social media content development.
Many projects will involve close cooperation and coordination with other YSPH communications staff members, as well as a wide variety of faculty, staff, and partners. The Multimedia Content Producer has an instinct for translating often complex public health topics and institutional priorities into easily understandable and visually creative content that will help us advance the school and university’s reputation as a dominant public health educator and thought leader. The work requires refined visual production skills for a variety of formats, from print to social media to multimedia to web.
The Multimedia Content Producer will supervise photography student workers and work closely with video, photo, and graphic design vendors.
A collaborative spirit, enthusiasm for teamwork and for hearing and considering others’ ideas, project management and organizational skills, and a habit of anticipating and preparing for potential obstacles will further distinguish the best candidates.
Essential Duties
- Coordinate video, photography, and audio projects, including executing projects, communicating with vendors, and weighing in on branding, creative approaches, idea conceptualization, and location selection.
- Lead graphic design work for brochures, flyers, newsletters, reports, social media, publications, and the web.
- Collaborate with staff, faculty, and partners, including senior staff and faculty, and other communicators on campus.
- Contribute to - and serve as backup for - social media management and content creation.
- Work with the digital advertising agency to approve creatives, learn about media buying and digital advertising, and use data to inform strategies.
- Research, evaluate, and select internal/external printers as appropriate. Develop cost estimates, printing specifications, and schedules. Carry projects through to completion.
- Organize the YSPH photo gallery and serve as lead photographer. Correct photos for color, contrast, and density. Use software to enhance, manipulate, resize, and retouch photos.
- Film and edit high-quality videos.
- Provide guidance, assistance, creative direction, and training to faculty and staff as needed.
- Generate and maintain accurate documentation of all project activities.
- Collect, interpret, and report on project analytics to measure success and inform future projects.
- Contribute to other marketing and communications projects as needed and requested by management.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge in graphic, photo, and video software including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, and Canva. Video and photo experience, preferably in higher education, creative agency, broadcast journalism, health, or related field.
- A creative outlook on communicating complex information with the ability to make a complicated but not inherently visual story visually appealing for general audiences.
- Ability to use data to inform communications and marketing strategies and strong marketing writing skills with demonstrated expertise in crafting and proofreading clear, compelling, audience-specific copy across channels.
- Experience in social media content development and management. Conversant in graphic design, marketing, and digital trends and advances in visual technologies.
- Excellent project management and cross-functional communication skills and comfort with deadlines.
Preferred Skills & Abilities
Experience or knowledge in paid marketing, specifically in higher education. Strong understanding of student recruitment marketing funnels. Experience or skills in illustration. Experience or knowledge in public health communications. Experience or skills in ADA compliance for digital and printed materials.
Principal Responsibilities
- Build, with a mix of photo database research and original commissions, the visual components of long-form feature stories.
- Select and/or commission imagery of short-form informational content.
- Craft graphics for social channels, as well as branded newsletters, brochures, presentations, and brand collateral.
- Create photo galleries and infographics, write text for photo captions and graphic captions.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to identify photos and graphics for license; participate in negotiations with vendors, curate photo database.
- Ensure the integrity of all photo databases, records, metadata, and files.
- Take part in editorial planning. A constant stream of fresh ideas and perspectives are vital to success.
- Embrace analytics as a vital tool to understand and benchmark content consumption and user behavior, and work with senior staff to evolve his/her work per that feedback.
- Provide graphic design support as needed.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years’ experience in a newsroom or agency environment (or equivalent). Must be able to manage workflows on both long and short term projects, and prioritize client needs. Experience in creation of infographics, editing photos, commissioning/managing photo shoots, and graphic design preferred.
