Job Duties
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses focusing on world history, including upper-level courses on Asian, Middle Eastern and/or other non-Atlantic regional history. This individual will also develop and teach relevant history courses in their area of research. They will engage in both face-to-face and online instruction and have an active research/scholarship agenda. Additionally, this assistant professor will help with university service at the department, college, and university levels.
NOTE: This is a history position and the person who fills this job opening must be in residence to teach classes in person at Norfolk State University’s main campus in Norfolk, VA.
Minimum Qualifications
- A doctoral degree and significant graduate coursework in Non-Atlantic World History or very closely related field
- Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching, and
- Evidence of potential for excellence in research
Additional Considerations
- A record of excellence in teaching, research, and/or service
- A record of teaching upper-level, topics courses in World History, especially courses with foci in Asia, the Middle East and/or the Pacific Region
- A record of research on military history in Asia, the Middle East and/or the Pacific Realm
- Evidence of potential to teach course(s) in the university’s General Education entitled “Spartan Perspectives on Global Issues”
- A record of obtaining external grant support
- A record of contributing to curriculum revision & improvement
