Position Overview:
Retriever Integrated Health (RIH) at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) seeks an experienced and student-focused Lead Nurse Practitioner (NP) to provide advanced clinical care and leadership within the campus health center. This position supports the health, well-being, and academic success of UMBC’s approximately 14,000 students, as well as the occasional faculty and staff, through high-quality, evidence-based primary care services. The Lead Nurse Practitioner serves in a dual role, providing comprehensive primary care while offering clinical leadership, supervision, and operational oversight for nurse practitioners and coordinating medical staff. This position partners with the Medical Director and Clinic Coordinator to ensure high-quality, evidence-based care, develop clinical standards, contribute to the maintenance of regulatory compliance, and advanced integrated health services across RIH’s medical, counseling and health promotion units. The Lead NP mentors the medical staff, fostering clinical excellence, autonomous decision-making, and professional development within a collaborative learning environment.

Responsibilities:
Clinical Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive primary care services, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care for acute and chronic conditions
- Deliver evidence-based, patient-centered care tailored to the needs of a diverse collegiate population
- Provide health education, preventive care, and counseling to promote student wellness, retention, and academic success
- Participate in health promotion and population health initiatives that support campus-wide well-being
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentation in accordance with institutional, state, and regulatory requirements
Leadership and Supervision
- Provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and leadership to nurse practitioners and nursing staff
- Train and guide counseling staff in integrated care practices, including when to initiate warm handoffs to medical services, how to collaborate on cases with co-occurring conditions, and when to connect students with health promotion resources
- Evaluate staff performance, clinical competency, and professional development on a scheduled basis and keep staff informed of their development and progress towards goals.
- Coordinate provider schedules to ensure efficient service delivery and timely access to care
- Serve as a clinical role model and resource for best practices in primary care and student health
Administrative and Quality Responsibilities
- Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical protocols and practice guidelines
- Ensure compliance with state licensure regulations, accreditation standards, and UMBC policies
- Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and operational effectiveness based on AAAHC Standards
- Contribute to operational planning, workflow improvement, and policy development within Retriever Integrated Health
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing (MSN or DNP) from an accredited program
- Four years of clinical experience in primary care, family practice, or student health, including two years in a supervisory role.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Certified Registered Family, Adult Health Nurse Practitioner
- Current BLS/AED for health care providers
- Licensed RN in Maryland, and Licensed Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience Preferred:
Two years in college health, ambulatory care or urgent care, gynecological experience, procedural experience such as IUD/LARC insertion, wound repair, etc.
Salary:
$113,184 - $127,633 depending on qualifications and experience.
