Job Summary:
This is a unique opportunity to work in the Section of Advanced Heart Failure, Mechanical Circulatory Support, and Cardiac Transplantation in the Division of Cardiology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO. This is the only program in the state to offer advanced cardiac therapies, with over 80 heart transplants performed annually. We are seeking to add a nurse practitioner or physician assistant to our thriving program.
This position will include inpatient assessment and management of our adult and adolescent patients in conjunction with our board-certified Advanced Heart Failure and Transplantation cardiologists.
Key Responsibilities:
- Obtains detailed history and performs physical examinations on assigned patients; assesses and treats acute and chronic medical problems and provides direct patient care to patients with advanced heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, and/or cardiac transplantation.
- Coordinates the activities of patient care with advanced practice providers, residents, fellows, cardiologists, and support staff.
- Responsible for ensuring smooth transitions of care between the inpatient and outpatient setting.
- Coordinates daily inpatient care, including interactions with consulting services.
- Responsible for the timely discharge of patients from the hospital and completion of discharge summaries.
- Effective collaboration and communication with all members of the care team, including consulting services.
- Performs emergency lifesaving procedures in cases such as cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, or similar emergencies.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature review, meetings and workshops.
- Participates in weekly Transplant Listing conferences, including presentation of patients and facilitation of advanced therapies evaluations.
- Participates in Section and Department faculty meetings.
- Helps develop written educational materials and treatment protocols for specific conditions and post-operative care.
- Assists in preparing and giving power point and poster presentations for educational purposes at institutional, local and national meetings, when appropriate.
- Participates in clinical research and may assist in preparation of manuscripts for publication.

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

We currently have 8 Board-Certified Advanced Heart Failure and Transplantation cardiologists and 7 Advanced Practice Providers. We work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to provide exceptional care for our patients throughout the continuum of advanced heart failure. Our inpatient service consists of internal medicine residents, fellows, advanced practice providers, and cardiologists. We care for critically ill patients, including management of inotropes, impellas, intra-aortic balloon pumps, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, and durable mechanical circulatory support. These patients also present with chronic conditions that we care for, including practicing general internal medicine. We are seeking an advanced practice provider to join our expanding team.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- State of Colorado Certified Physician's Assistant or Inclusion on the State of Colorado Advanced Practice Registry as an Advance Practice Nurse
- National Board Certification
- CPR/ACLS Certified
- Prescriptive authority
Preferred Qualifications:
- Inpatient cardiology and/or critical care experience. May be willing to train a new graduate with previous ICU/cardiac experience or exceptional qualifications.
- Experience with the advanced heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, and transplant patient population
