Assistant Professor of Instruction, Practice, or Lecturer
The University of Texas at San Antonio College of Sciences (COS), Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, invites applications for the Open Rank position to be hired at the Assistant Professor of Instruction, Assistant Professor of Practice, or Lecturer level to begin Spring 2026.
Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences
The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences (EPS) in the College of Sciences at the University of Texas at San Antonio houses the programs for the BS in Geosciences, MS in Geosciences, MS in Geoinformatics, PhD in Environmental Science and Engineering[under KCEID], Certificate in Geographical Information Systems at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Position Summary
Seeking outstanding candidates with teaching expertise in multiple areas in the earth and planetary sciences to include and complement areas of earth science, GIS, remote sensing, earth/life history, geomorphology, petroleum geology, advanced stratigraphy, basin analysis, hydrology, environmental geology. Strong candidates with expertise in any area of earth and planetary sciences are welcome to apply. The successful candidate will have a varied teaching background and teaching practices to engage the student population in high enrollment courses for non-majors, as well as geosciences majors. Teaching sustainability and field experiences will be valued.
Primary duties will be teaching undergraduate or graduate geosciences / GIS courses, four courses/sections per semester (Fall and Spring) at the Assistant Professor of Instruction or Practice level and two courses per semester (Fall and Spring) at the Lecturer level.
Required Qualifications
- PhD degree in Earth and Planetary Sciences or closely related field or MS degree and professional (industry) experience in geosciences.
- This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Candidates will have a strong and demonstrated teaching record of accomplishment, with a commitment to mentoring students, evidence of excellence in teaching at a post-secondary or higher education level, evidence of instructional development.
