Position Summary
Oracle Database Administrator Information Technology Full time Primary Responsibilities- Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all Ellucian Banner related software, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
- Develop, document, and maintain policies and procedures for database administration as needed for existing or new systems. Work with IT management on disaster recover solutions for all systems and applications; Analyze and recommend solutions to improve overall performance, redundancy, and scalability of infrastructure
- Distribute documentation to university staff for all Banner releases and patches; Research, plan, install, coordinate, test, and implement in multiple Banner environments all needed releases/patches; Perform leading role in the Banner Management Committee
- Provide direct technical support in problem management, integration, and systems maintenance of the university's Banner administrative system; Mentor and support application staff in the access and use of the Oracle environment; Work closely with application teams on troubleshooting issues as well as planning requirements for new software that integrates with the Oracle database; Troubleshoot and take ownership of all Oracle/Banner issues that arise with various applications and systems and work to resolve them until a resolution is reached
- Assist in the management of servers and application environments critical to business processing which includes working with application teams responsible for hosted apps, performing application updates as needed, and maintaining database security (Oracle and Banner) and compliance as required by university policy and standards; Work with campus business units on security controls and access to Oracle and Banner services and assist with associated campus audits; Create new Banner environments to meet university requirements
- Perform research on new technologies and provide findings through verbal presentations and written reports; Monitor multiple listservs to gain valuable knowledge on possible issues with Oracle, Banner, or other related software
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related IT field with at least three years of relevant experience
- Minimum of 3 years' experience supporting a database environment and using SQL
- Minimum of 2 years' experience working in Linux system administration
- Experience in an Oracle environment; Experience with Ellucian Banner is a plus
- Experience working with Tomcat middleware
- Experience with scripting and programming
- Must have strong troubleshooting, decision making, and analytical skills
- Must be available after hours and/or on weekends to install and maintain software components and to troubleshoot any service interruptions
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision as well as part of a team
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of quality customer service
