Summary:
This position is responsible for assisting with all aspects of the University’s varsity spirit program. The Assistant Coach will primarily provide assistance in coaching instruction to spirit program student-athletes during practices and games. This position requires frequent interaction with the head coach, assistant coaches, and athletic trainers to help promote a successful and positive athletic experience for all spirit program student-athletes.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for enhancing the performance of spirit program student-athletes. Assist with the implementation of the practice plans athletes approved and/or established by the head coach. Works with coaches to determine progress and making needed individual adjustments. Attends practices and games.
- Assists coaching staff with administrative tasks, as assigned by the head coach. This includes but is not limited to scheduling, fundraising, and managing program equipment.
- Assists in the recruiting efforts designed to attract academically qualified and athletically gifted student-athletes to program. Evaluates prospective student-athletes in-person and through reports from high school coaches on their athletic and academic performance. Keeps all recruiting records in good order and provides regular reports to the Head Coach on the recruitment status of each prospective student-athlete. Reports any major concerns or attention for recruitment related issues to the Head Coach.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- Part-time.
- Non-exempt.
- 10 hours/week.
Salary Range: $22.86/hour.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree.
- 1-3 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- 3-5 years of relevant experience.
- Approximately 1-2 years coaching experience or spirit program experience at the collegiate or professional level preferred.
Travel Required: Some travel may be required.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications: USA Cheer certification required.
