Location: New York, NY

Pay Range: $1,440 - $1,700 per credit hour

Pay Determination: Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months salary unless otherwise specified.

Hours: Spring Semester 2026 TuTh 2:10PM-4:00PM | Fisher Cntr 136 Madison Ave NY | 01/13/2026 - 04/23/2026. Office hours are required.

Job Description:

The Department of Drama Tepper Semester within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a Part-time Instructor to teach DRA 530 Advanced Actors Workshop, a three credit hour course, in the Spring Semester, 2026, as part of The Tepper Semester at The Fisher Center in New York City.

This course is an advanced exploration into the art and craft of acting. The focus of the class is on identifying and personalizing a character's driving need and connecting the actor's voice, body, mind, and spirit in its active pursuit. Special concentration will be placed on finding the freedom to live personally in the given circumstances of a play, lending one's self to character and deepening the actor's personal connection to dramatic text.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree, preferable an MFA.
  • 4+ years of teaching experience.

Job Specific Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of current acting techniques and ability to lead a comprehensive course on acting craft for advanced students.

Responsibilities:

Teaching up to 3 times a week, give feedback, and grade students based on their progress in the class.

In addition:

  • Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
  • Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
  • Meeting all designated class periods.
  • If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute.
  • You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.
  • Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
  • Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.
  • Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
  • Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
