Part-time Faculty - Geographic Information Systems

Job Description

The Montgomery College, Rockville campus, is currently accepting applications for possible openings as a part-time faculty member teaching Geographic Information Systems. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and demonstrates the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach Geographic Information Systems courses using Esri ArcPro in the Department of Applied Technology.
  • Teach a diverse schedule of courses that may include day, night, early morning, weekend, accelerated sections, and online (remote).
  • Engage students in their learning through active collaborative and innovative methods.
  • Apply cartographic relevant pedagogies to the teaching and learning process.
  • Incorporate the use of educational enterprise platform, specifically Blackboard, G.I.S. software, and other relevant technology into instruction.
  • Teach at the Rockville campus as needed.
  • Ability to create and teach online courses through Blackboard when necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Geography or related field required OR two-year degree in the related field plus at least five years of professional discipline-related.
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
  • Professional and academic training in cartography and G.I.S.
  • Experience using Esri ArcPro and Spatial Analysis extensions
  • Professional training and familiarity with Blackboard and Remote teaching.
  • Interest in, understanding of, and commitment to the community college mission.
  • Evidence of teaching or work experience in the field.
  • Candidates must demonstrate currency in geography and cartography.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • All candidates will be asked to give a brief oral presentation to the Program Coordinator describing their geographic specialty, interest, and background experience.
  • Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to promoting belonging, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and must be willing to contribute to the Colleges strategic plan of inclusion.
  • Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus). Montgomery College (MC) provides an MC e-mail account and access to the learning platform, password-protected faculty sections of the website, college listservs, and other faculty communications tools. If you do not have access to a personal computer, please notify the department chair at the time of interview. Subject to available funds, the college may be able to provide temporary access to resources.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without a sponsor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in applied geography and cartography or related discipline.
  • Teaching at the community college level.
  • Demonstration of student engagement strategies that help students succeed in the course.

For degrees earned outside of the U.S., a copy of your education equivalency, conducted by a nationally recognized evaluation service, must be included in your application.

Employees must live in Maryland or a state where the College has payroll reciprocity (DC, VA, PA, WV, DE, MA).
