Department Summary:

The Department of Global Languages and Literatures is committed to helping students develop an in-depth understanding of foreign languages, literatures, linguistics, cultures and civilizations. Our students learn to express their ideas and views in a new language while discovering how another culture has contributed to societal development. They become engaged international citizens who enlist language skills and cultural knowledge to succeed in a variety of careers and intellectual disciplines in an increasingly globalized world.

Essential Duties:

The Department of Global Languages and Literatures at Bridgewater State University seeks qualified Part Time Faculty who are enthusiastic teachers and dedicated to working with undergraduates for the 2025/2026 academic year. Candidates must demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of students from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of abilities.

Specific courses are as follows. The successful candidate must be available to teach IN PERSON or ONLINE SYNCHRONOUSLY on the following days/times during the Fall 2025 semester:

• LAJA 172-COS Business Japanese (MW 7:15p - 8:30p)

Additional evening teaching opportunity - First or Second Year Seminar (in-person, on-line synchronously or asynchronously in the candidates area of specialization)

Required Qualifications:

• A Masters Degree in Japanese or related field.
• Fluent in Japanese.
• Experience teaching Japanese at the college level.
• Demonstrated ability to use technology effectively in online and in-person teaching, and learning designed to meet the educational, culturally relevant, and emotional needs of our students.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the concepts, technologies, principles and practices of foreign language instruction.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Japanese preferred.
• Experience teaching hybrid courses.
