Preceptor in Korean
Position Description
The Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University seeks applications for a Preceptor in Korean. The appointment is expected to begin on August 1, 2026. The preceptor will be responsible for acting as instructor in charge of one of the levels of Korean taught at Harvard, between elementary and advanced (fifth year level), and for training and supervising instructors in the Korean program.
The position is for three years, renewable for a term of up to five years (eight years in total), contingent on performance, enrollments, curricular need, position availability, and divisional dean authorization.
Basic Qualifications
The successful applicant should be well versed on the pedagogical issues of teaching Korean as a foreign language, have experience in teaching all levels of Korean, and must have exemplary ability in comprehension and active use of modern standard Korean, written and spoken, at native or near-native proficiency.
Additional Qualifications
Several years of experience teaching modern Korean at the college level in the United States and specialization in Korean pedagogy and second language acquisition is highly desirable. A minimum of M.A. degree in Korean Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Foreign Language Education, or a closely related field is required, with a preference for a Ph.D. degree (or ABD).

Salary Range
$70,300 – $78,300
Pay offered to the selected candidate is dependent on factors such as years of experience, training or qualification, field of scholarship, and accomplishments in the field.
