The Institute's impact expands beyond its 25-acre residential campus in Brooklyn to cutting-edge facilities throughout the borough, a landmark building and public gallery in Manhattan, as well as an extension campus, Pratt Munson College of Art and Design in Utica, New York. On Governors Island, Pratt is a core partner on the Stony Brook University team selected to develop the New York Climate Exchange, a research and educational hub poised to establish New York City as the global leader for the most pressing issue of our time: climate change. Another extension of Pratt's campus is the Research Yard, a 20,000-square-foot facility that brings together the research activities of Pratt Institute under one roof in the Brooklyn Navy Yard (BNY).

The Industrial Design department at Pratt Institute is calling for applications for inclusion in the pool of candidates to join our part-time teaching faculty, starting from the Fall 2024 semester.

The Industrial Design department is committed to educate students to become creative and responsible design leaders capable of bringing positive changes in culture, society, and environment. Whether working with industry or acting as entrepreneurs, Industrial Design graduates are able to create products, systems, and environments which help to innovate and improve people's quality of life. Devoted to a creative learning community, Pratt recognizes the strength that stems from a diversity of perspectives, ideas, backgrounds, approaches and experiences. We seek applicants with a broad vision of the future of the design field and the ability to articulate that vision. We encourage applicants with experience and knowledge in the following areas of expertise:

  • 2D and 3D representation and form studies
  • Color studies
  • Design engineering and technology
  • Product design and innovation
  • New materials and sustainable design
  • Design theory and research
  • Interdisciplinary and collaborative design
  • Other specialized fields of departmental interest

Examples of Duties:

  • Teach part-time courses in the Industrial Design department, focusing on areas such as 2D and 3D representation, product design, innovation, or sustainable design, while fostering students' ability to create products and systems that improve quality of life.
  • Contribute to an inclusive and collaborative learning environment by leveraging strong interpersonal skills and intercultural competence, engaging with diverse student populations to promote responsible design leadership.

Qualifications: Applicants are required to have a professional degree in industrial design or relevant fields, and college-level teaching experience. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal skills, a demonstrated level of intercultural competence, and ability to work well with diverse populations.

Pay Rate: $1,500 - $2,100 per contact hour
