"Part-Time Instructor: Seminar in Group Counseling and Group Theory (Wednesdays-Spring 2025)"

The Boston College Master's Program in Mental Health Counseling in the Lynch School of Education and Human Development (LSEHD) at Boston College invites applications for a part time instructor for our Seminar in Group Counseling and Group Theory course that will meet Wednesdays 4:30 PM - 6:50 PM for the Spring 2025 semester (January 13, 2025 - May 9, 2025). The course, described below, is a required course in our 2-year master's degree program:

Course Description

This seminar is a graduate-level counseling psychology course that takes an integrative approach to understanding group therapy through (a) a critical understanding of theory, (b) knowledge of current research, and (c) application of skills. Students are expected to read and understand the basics of group counseling theory, observe techniques via videos and during class, and practice applying these techniques in a group setting. Through participation during class and self-reflection, students will gain insight into the group process, including interpersonal dynamics as both a group member and leader. Content areas include: group leadership, ethics, multicultural issues and social advocacy, group development over time, evidence-based group therapy, and groups based on varying theoretical perspectives.

Qualifications:

• Master's degree in counseling is required; PhD or PsyD in Counseling Psychology or a closely related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years post-licensure practice experience
• Prior teaching experience will be valued highly.
