Salary Schedule: Placement on the adjunct faculty salary schedule is based upon education and credited experience. Initial placement can range from $60.01 to $75.10 per hour (Salary Schedule AJ - Special Rate).
Months Per Year: Semester assignments as needed

This is a position for the Middle College at Skyline College (MCSC) in the Strategic Partnerships & Workforce Development Division, which involves teaching high school juniors and seniors (11th and 12th grade students) who are concurrently enrolled in college courses as part of the Middle College Program at Skyline College. These students are part of an early college model designed to support college readiness, academic excellence, and personal growth by providing a supportive and academically rigorous environment on a college campus.
The MCSC strongly encourages collaboration across disciplines to create integrated, interdisciplinary learning experiences. MCSC faculty members are expected to be knowledgeable about and willing to use different learning and teaching methods appropriate to the discipline. Faculty and student services staff are expected to be active and engaged knowledge-builders through professional development. They will also model the skills they want their students to learn, including collaboration, intellectual curiosity, self-regulation, and meta-cognition, while effectively using technology in the learning process. They collaborate to design and deliver an innovative multidisciplinary curriculum that emphasizes 'authentic' learning opportunities that prepare learners for college, life, and work in the 21st Century.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach classes as assigned in college and career readiness, including self-development, career planning, social-emotional learning, personal management, community engagement, and general life/skills knowledge. Topics include, but are not limited to:
- College and scholarship applications
- Career exploration, resume writing, and interview preparation
- Time management, personal branding, and goal setting
- Identity and leadership development
- Financial literacy
- Building and maintaining professional relationships
- Completion of digital portfolios and senior capstone projects
- Provide learning support services and activities
- Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours
- Maintain expertise in current teaching and discipline technologies
- Perform professional responsibilities per pertinent goals, missions, and plans of the college, division, and programs
- Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs

- And familiarity with instructional technologies and digital learning tools
- Classroom management and culturally responsive teaching practices
Skills and Abilities:
- Enthusiasm and expertise in teaching high school students
- Recent successful experience teaching and guiding students in academic strategies and college/career pathways
- Understanding and commitment to the MCSC mission and early college model
- Evaluate student performance based on the achievement of objectives
- Use writing and project-based learning as tools for evaluation
- Teach students with a variety of academic, cultural, and life experiences
- Design outcome-based instruction and assess learning outcomes
- Commitment to co-curricular activities and the full student experience
- Adhere to MCSC and SMCCCD policies and procedures and applicable regulations
Job Requirements:
- Master's degree or above in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family, and child counseling OR the equivalent (see below)
- California Single Subject Teaching Credential
- Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice both within and outside of the classroom.
Preferred
- Experience supporting high school students with college and career navigation
