Phlebotomist

Position Description

Draws blood from patients in correctional hospital facility for analysis or other medical purposes.

Major/Essential Functions

• Possess skills and knowledge in obtaining blood from venous and capillary sites.
• Uses correct procedures to accurately identify patients and specimen.
• Completes paperwork and maintains records as needed.
• Prepare biological specimens for analysis.
• Assists in maintaining proper level of supplies.
• Be well organized and able to synchronize duties with other personnel.
• Report incidents that are unusual or deficient to immediate supervisor.
• Adheres to infection control standards.
• Maintains patient and staff confidentiality.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor
