Political Science Instructor (Part-Time Faculty Pool)

Ohlone College is seeking a pool of qualified applicants for temporary part-time teaching assignments in Political Science. Assignments may include day, evening, and weekend courses, and may be in-person, online, or hybrid.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Teach Political Science in accordance with post-secondary level established course outlines.
2. Evaluate student work using clear criteria relevant to the course content and student learning outcomes, and provide feedback to students in a timely manner.
3. Maintain and submit accurate records according to published deadlines (i.e., grades, syllabi, attendance reports).
4. Create an equity-based and welcoming classroom environment.
5. Perform duties described in Board policy, the United Faculty of Ohlone (faculty bargaining unit) contract, the Faculty Handbook, and as assigned at the Fremont Campus and Newark Center, online via the eCampus, and/or other designated locations.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's in political science, government, or international relations; OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in economics, history, public administration, social science, sociology, any ethnic studies, Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.) or Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B.); OR the equivalent; AND commitment to community college goals/objectives of being an equity-based and anti-racist institution, providing quality programs and services for diverse students, and working effectively in a multicultural environment.

Desirable Qualifications

1. Teaching experience at the community college level.
2. Experience in using innovative teaching methods that encourage student engagement and learning.
3. Experience creating socially conscious syllabi, equitable classroom materials, and inclusive pedagogical practices.
4. Experience addressing issues of equity, working with minoritized students, and commitment to participatory governance.
5. Experience in the use of computer technology as a teaching tool, including course management systems.
6. Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
7. Ability to work successfully in a team environment.
