Offer Description
Project Title: Standardization of source-based directed connectivity analysis using large EEG/MEG datasets. Analysis of intrinsic brain networks associated with cognitive control.
Task description: designing and creating EEG/MEG simulations, running multiverse analyses with realistic and simulated data, interpretation of results, co-writing publications, disseminating results
Project description: Network analysis, which can reveal a dynamic information exchange between cortical areas, is a key to understanding how the brain guides our behavior. Connectivity methods based on BOLD signals come with some significant limitations: low temporal resolution, no directional information, and limitation to pairwise comparisons. Some of these constraints can be overcome with the analysis of M/EEG signals, which can provide the information on causality of brain regions (directed connectivity; DC). This, however, comes with an additional cost of mathematical complexity, and the application of DC methods is demanding in practice and compels decisions on many parameters that can significantly affect the accuracy of the final outcomes. Unfortunately, their impact on final results is not well determined, and no agreed guidelines are yet available. Based on our standardization work, we plan to formulate firm and reliable guidelines for the method. With the guidelines already determined, we plan to analyze a varied datasets of cognitive control tasks to reveal the detailed dynamics and functional characteristics of two intrinsic brain networks engaged in processes of cognitive control: the salience network (SN) and the frontoparietal network (FPN). Due to its high temporal precision, our method will attempt to step out beyond the existing knowledge by providing functional distinctions between specific elements of control functions (detection, attention control, response preparation, and error monitoring).

Specific Requirements
The selection procedure is open for all individuals, who meet the requirements set out in Articles 113 and 116.2.3) of the Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science, and who meet the following eligibility criteria according to § 165 of the Statute of the Jagiellonian University:
- holding at least a doctoral degree;
- having relevant scientific achievements;
- taking active part in scientific life.
Additional requirements necessary for employment (indicated in order of priority):
- PhD degree in math, physics, computer science, electrical engineering, psychology, cognitive science, or a related field,
- good programming skills,
- experience in signal processing or neuroimaging data processing,
- fluency in the English language,
- knowledge of Matlab environment (recommended),
- statistical analysis skills (recommended).
Applicants for the position may be persons who obtained their doctoral degree in the year of employment in the project or within the 12 years preceding 1 January of the year of employment in the project. This period may be extended under the conditions specified in the Regulations on the Award of Funding for Research Tasks Financed by the National Science Centre (Annex to NCN Council Resolution No. 72/2025 of 11 September 2025)

Remuneration
- basic remuneration in the amount / range of 7.892 ‒ 9.471 PLN gross;
- seniority allowance depending on length of service (3‒20%);

Selection process
The first stage of the selection procedure is the formal assessment of the submitted documents. Applications which meet all formal requirements are the subject of substantive assessment, during which an interview with the Candidate (F/M) may be conducted (directly or via electronic communication channels), upon settling the date of the interview with the Candidate (F/M). During the interview, the soft competencies indicated in the announcement will also be verified. The Candidate (F/M) has the right to appeal against the negative assessment by the selection board within 7 days from receiving the information about the results of the assessment.
