College/Department Information
The fellow will become part of a team to assess mechanisms for the decline in cognitive function/mental processing during normal aging or in disorders including Alzheimer's disease and epilepsy. The position is in the laboratory of Dr. Ferenc Deak (Augusta Univ., GA), who has a long-standing interest in understanding the molecular regulation of synaptic neurotransmission. Currently interest is on recently identified variants associated with AD and epilepsy and their effect on neuronal networks and cognitive function. On-going studies include live fluorescence imaging of synaptic transmission and plasticity, long-term potentiation, and whole cell patch clamp recordings of neuronal activity in a variety of transgenic rodent models. Planned experiments involve human cells derived organoids.
