Postdoctoral Research Assistant – Musckuloskeletal Organ-Chip Models

A Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) is sought to join the musculoskeletal organ-chip research team within Queen Mary’s Centre for Predictive in vitro Models.

This 23-month post is part of the Precision Musculoskeletal Care theme at the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre. The PDRA will help drive our activity in developing, validating, and testing a suit of new musculoskeletal organ-chip models. These include different combinations of tissues such as synovium, cartilage, bone, meniscus, blood vessels and fat, as well as conditions such as inflammation, osteoarthritis and fibrosis. The post allows for some flexibility in the specific models and related research, but with a strong emphasis on supporting further grant applications in this field.

We are looking for an outstanding, post-doctoral researcher with proven expertise and practical experience in relevant techniques including cell culture, organ-chip models, tissue engineering, and musculoskeletal biology. The PDRA will plan and conduct experiments, generate high-quality data, prepare publications, make presentations and help supervise associated PhD students.

The successful candidates will join large, supportive research teams led by Prof Knight, and Prof Screen working collaboratively at Queen Mary. The PDRA will interact with a team of academics, PDRAs, and PhD students, working on related organ-chip models, as well as clinicians and scientists involved in the wider Biomedical Research Centre.

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the largest and most successful multidisciplinary centres in this rapidly expanding area of organ-on-a-chip technology.

School of Engineering and Materials Science, a large School with over 108 academics. There are around 2500 undergraduate and taught postgraduate students and over 250 PhD students within our London operation, supported by an administrative and technical staff of around 50.

At Queen Mary University of London, we believe that a diversity of ideas helps us achieve the previously unthinkable.

Throughout our history, we’ve fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence. And we continue to live and breathe this spirit today, not because it’s simply ‘the right thing to do’ but for what it helps us achieve and the intellectual brilliance it delivers.

We continue to embrace diversity of thought and opinion in everything we do, in the belief that when views collide, disciplines interact, and perspectives intersect, truly original thought takes form.

We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities.

Queen Mary’s commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability. We are open to considering applications from candidates wishing to work flexibly.
