"Postdoctoral researcher: avian microbiomes and reproduction - NIOO-KNAW - Wageningen"

Job Summary: We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join our team working on avian reproductive microbiomes at the Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW). The role involves studying the impact of microbiome variation on host survival and reproduction using an avian model system, the house sparrow, as part of an ERC-funded project.

Responsibilities: Set up and run in vivo microbiota manipulations in nestling house sparrows; Develop and evaluate additional microbiome disruption approaches; Lead and conduct sample collection from house sparrows (nestlings and adults); Contribute to laboratory analysis of samples; Perform bioinformatic analysis of microbiome data; Prepare manuscripts and disseminate research findings; Assist with training other researchers, including PhD candidates, and supervise masters and bachelor student projects; Contribute to the friendly and collaborative environment of the research group.

Qualifications and Requirements: PhD in evolutionary biology, evolutionary ecology, molecular biology, or a related field; Experience in animal-microbiome research, documented by publications in peer-reviewed journals; Skills in bioinformatics and statistical analysis of microbiome data; Experience working with animals; Meticulous working habits and strong organisational skills; English communication skills, both written and spoken; Creativity, motivation, and curiosity to contribute to project development.

What the Employer Offers: A temporary appointment for up to 3.5 years (initially 1 year, extendable); Salary between €3,378 and €5,331 gross per month for a full-time position (scale 10 cao Nederlandse Universiteiten/KNAW); 8% vacation allowance; 8.3% year-end bonus; Travel allowance, internet allowance, home working allowance; Pension accrual with ABP; Opportunities for additional days off and other secondary benefits.
