Description:The Health, Humanities, and Society Program at the Reilly Center for Science, Technology, and Values in the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar position in history of modern medicine (1950-present). The successful applicant will join our Program in Health, Humanities, and Society beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year. This is a one-year position with the possibility of renewal for an additional year.

The accepted applicant will participate in the undergraduate program in Health, Humanities, and Society, will engage in service and mentorship of students, will teach one course per semester and develop their teaching portfolio, will help with planning and organizing Center events, will engage in activities in the History and Philosophy of Science program, and will also engage in their own research and writing and make satisfactory progress towards publication goals. The postdoctoral scholar will be assisted in developing new professional skills and starting or continuing a research program with mentorship from the senior faculty and faculty development resources. Salary: $62,232, plus benefits and a generous research fund.

Qualifications:

Expertise in all areas of history of modern medicine are welcome, but especially those that address perspectives on policy and health, immigration and medicine, medical technology, and public health. Geographic area is open, but scholars who work on research on the U.S. or the South Asian health care systems are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. within three years prior to the date of appointment.
