About the Role

As the Director, People, Culture and Governance you will work closely with the Chief People and Culture Officer (CPCO) and serve as the second-in-command on specific projects and committees, representing the division in strategic decision-making and collaborating to drive Deakin’s people-focused initiatives.

Core responsibilities will encompass governance, reporting, budget management, committee leadership, legislative, industrial and strategic initiatives, leading a small team of dedicated professionals.

  • Strategic Collaboration: Work closely with the CPCO to develop and implement strategic people and culture initiatives that align with Deakin's strategic direction, vision and values.
  • Executive Representation: Act as a representative of the People and Culture division, providing insights and input into executive-level discussions and decisions.
  • Engagement and Development: Partner with the CPCO and People and Culture leadership team to drive engagement across the division, invest in the workforce, enhance performance and development, and mentor team members to improve the overall working experience at Deakin.
  • Governance and Compliance: Lead the development and implementation of effective governance strategies, industrial and legislative policies, and practices to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Reporting and Budget Management: Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely reports, metrics, and analytics for the CPCO and executive team, manage the division's budget with People and Culture leaders, ensuring financial accountability, and chair cross-functional committees to foster collaboration and holistic success.

About You

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Qualifications and experience, that includes thought governance, policy, workplace and industrial relations, commensurate with a director level appointment
  • Extensive experience conceptualising, developing and implementing contemporary solutions, strategies and services to achieve a large Deakin’s objectives
  • A sound knowledge and understanding of contemporary relevant discipline practices
  • Demonstrated capacity to build and maintain strong and productive relationships with internal and external partners and customers
  • Proven ability to exercise judgement, influence others, be flexible and adaptive to environmental changes and priorities, and gain support for new plans, programs or initiatives
  • Highly developed consulting, interpersonal, communication (written and oral) and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated capacity for analytical and conceptual thought in the diagnosis of problems and in providing innovative, timely, relevant and practical solutions
  • High level project management, research and report writing skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative work teams and proven capability to achieve quality customer service to stakeholders and quality improvement to a wide range of practices and services.
