Position Summary
The Professional STEM Tutor, Part-Time provides academic support to students in a variety of STEM subjects and courses throughout the University. They will use their knowledge and expertise to help students understand course content, become better learners, and succeed academically. In addition to subject matter expertise, the Professional STEM Tutor should have working knowledge of academic skills including critical reading and learning strategies. They will facilitate academic success sessions for and conduct outreach to students to support their engagement with course content.
Essential Duties
- Support the learning of STEM students, especially in the health sciences.
- Support and conduct programming and outreach to students in challenging first-year science courses.
- Provide individual and small group tutoring sessions, both in-person and online.
- Integrate effective study and learning strategies to maximize the student's understanding of course material.
- Recommend and/or develop supplemental resources and tools to support student learning.
- Work effectively with a diverse range of students.
- Facilitate workshops and academic success activities in collaboration with campus partners.
- Participate in the University's tutor training program.
- Present a welcoming and professional demeanor to students using services in the Center.
- Maintain accurate availability and session reports in the Center's data management system.
- Provide reports as requested by the Assistant or Senior Director.
- Comply with confidentiality laws and policies, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Secondary Responsibilities
- Support undergraduate tutors by enhancing their understanding and pedagogy, especially on learning and studying in STEM courses, and serving as a model of punctuality and professionalism.
- Support Center tutoring operations (marketing, communicating with stakeholders, etc.).
- Stay abreast of best practices in tutoring and STEM learning as directed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Assistant or Senior Director of the Center for Academic Achievement.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline.
- One to three years prior experience tutoring or teaching STEM topics/courses (for example, biology, chemistry, math, health sciences).
- Ability to quickly establish rapport and communicate well with students and instructors.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of La Salle University.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a STEM or health sciences field.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
May require evening availability
