Simulation Technician, Behling Human Simulation Center
Position Summary
The office of the Behling Human Simulation Center is seeking an organized and creative person to join our team as our Simulation Technician in the Behling Human Simulation Center and Margaret W. Wendt Clinical Competency Center. In this role, the incumbent will support medical education by setting up and maintaining simulation environments, equipment, and standardized patient encounters that create engaging hands-on learning experiences. Reporting directly to the Clinical and Administrative Director, the incumbent will play a critical role in supporting the implementation of simulation activities by preparing and maintaining equipment, facilitating scenarios, and ensuring seamless operations that enhance the learning experience for students, faculty, and community partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, operate, and maintain high-fidelity simulators, task trainers, audiovisual systems, and related equipment to support simulation-based education.
- Collaborate with faculty to design and implement simulation scenarios, program simulator software, and adapt procedure trainers for instructional use.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on simulation hardware, software, and networked systems to ensure operational readiness.
- Train and support facilitators and standardized patients to deliver high-quality simulation sessions and debriefings.
- Manage inventories, consumable supplies, warranties, and vendor service to ensure facilities remain fully equipped and functional.
- Collect and report utilization and performance data to support curriculum improvement, accreditation requirements, and research initiatives.
- Assist the Clinical and Administrative Director in expanding center usage, supporting scholarly activities, and engaging internal and external partners.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in a medical, technological, or related field.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical, project management and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Proficiency with Windows-based computer hardware/software; moderate understanding of networked computers and AV equipment.
- Ability to work in a fluid, demanding environment and communicate well during stressful situations; ability to transport ~50 lbs. and relocate simulators (>100 lbs. with assistance).
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 years of professional work experience.
- Experience with mechanical systems (pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical) including troubleshooting and repair.
- Proficiency with Laerdal LLEAP and B-Line Medical SimCapture.
- Two years of IT experience.
- Customer-service orientation and experience supporting diverse stakeholders.
Physical Demands:
Ability to work in a fluid, demanding environment and communicate well during stressful situations; ability to transport ~50 lbs. and relocate simulators (>100 lbs. with assistance).
Salary Range:
$55,000 - $58,000
