The University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law invites applications for the position of Professor of Law, Legal Practice and Emerging Technologies Librarian. This faculty appointment combines responsibilities for library technologies and systems management, reference and instructional services, and teaching in the legal research and writing program. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the research and teaching needs of law students and faculty while advancing the integration of emerging technologies into legal education.

Primary Purpose
The Professor of Law, Legal Practice and Emerging Technologies Librarian leads the implementation, management and maintenance of library technologies and systems, including online databases and services. The position also provides reference and instructional assistance and contributes to the law school's legal research and writing program through teaching.

Essential Functions

  • Electronic Resources Management
    • Manage electronic information resources, including authentication, licensing, and vendor payments.
    • Maintain the library's proxy service to ensure reliable access to digital content.
    • Evaluate and recommend electronic resources; coordinate trials and analyze usage data to inform collection development.
  • Reference and Instructional Services
    • Provide reference and research support to students, faculty, and staff.
    • Design and deliver instruction on legal research and library resources through classes, workshops, seminars, and individual consultations.
  • Teaching
    • Teach in the School of Law's legal research and writing program.
    • Collaborate with faculty to integrate research instruction into the law school curriculum.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school, or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.L.S., M.L.I.S., or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of legal research in print and electronic formats.
  • Three or more years of relevant professional experience, preferably in an academic law library.
  • Experience teaching legal research, or the ability and interest to develop expertise as a classroom instructor.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.
