Job Description

The Senior Associate Director, Recruitment & Employer Outreach is responsible for recruitment programs, networking opportunities, employer relations, and tracking related statistics for the Law School. The overall goal for this role is to ensure that BC Law students have access to a wide array of opportunities in the continuously evolving national legal market, and that they are able to learn about and access these opportunities as efficiently as possible throughout their three years of law school. Additionally, this role is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with all types of legal employers throughout the nation, and for ensuring that all information related to employment and employers is tracked and conveyed to the rest of the CSO team.

A key component for law student satisfaction and for the Law School's national reputation is our outstanding employment record. The person in this role plays a significant part in ensuring that we can continue to reach our goals in this regard, in an ever-changing legal market.

Essential functions include but are not limited to the following:

Recruitment - 40%:

  • Lead recruitment team efforts for summer and post-graduate opportunities. Including interview programs, such as several On-Camera-Interview (OCI) programs per year, and networking programs, such as yearly in-person large-scale formal networking events, and numerous smaller networking opportunities that take place throughout the year both on campus and virtually.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Dean to determine the best timeline for recruitment programs and large-scale networking programs; lead implementation of these programs.
  • Track and report on key metrics and analytics related to student employment and hiring timelines.
  • Work to continuously improve recruitment efficiency and effectiveness, in both public and private sectors.
  • Update marketing materials and outreach communications for employers.
  • Contribute expertise to the success of all Career Services events, programs and projects.

Employer Outreach - 40%:

  • Engage in exploring legal market and legal innovation trends, as well as student interest trends, in order to recommend and implement strategy for BC Law job growth.
  • Develop new leads and strengthen existing relationships with legal, legal-related and other business/industry employers to increase internship and permanent employment opportunities for JD students and recent graduates.
  • Meet with large law firm recruiters on a regular basis to determine the ideal large law firm recruitment timeline for BC Law students and recruiting trends.
  • Meet with employers, leads, and alumni in furtherance of the job growth strategy.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Externships to build new law school contacts with local employers.
  • Create processes to improve coordination of law school's employer outreach efforts and to track those efforts.
  • Attend internal, external and virtual networking events.
  • Collaborate with faculty, administration, advancement, and alumni on employment initiatives as needed; following up on leads who reach out to these offices about student employment.

Training/Programming - 20%:

  • Communicate regularly with CSO staff about market and employer information and trends in order to ensure that programming, advising, and reporting efforts are current.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Dean and advising team, create practice/market and recruiting skills presentations and materials for students.
  • Collaborate with Advancement as appropriate in facilitating effective mentoring, networking or other related programming with alumni.
  • Aid in career advising on an "as needed" basis.

This position reports to the Assistant Dean, Career Services and oversees the role of Manager, Recruitment & Operations.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $97,450 to $121,800; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

Education:

  • J.D. preferred.
  • Candidates without a J.D. should have a bachelor's degree and experience in the legal field as well as the minimum requirements listed below.

Experience:

  • Minimum six years of prior experience in related career services, recruitment, or legal practice. Demonstrated experience managing teams.
  • For candidates coming from a recruitment background, strong preference will be given to candidates with work experience related to law students and/or attorneys.
  • For candidates coming from a career services background, strong preference will be given to candidates with experience in employer and/or alumni relations, and/or managing recruitment programs.
  • For candidates coming directly from practice, strong preference will be given to candidates with diverse practice experience and who have been heavily involved in law student recruitment.
  • Strong preference for candidates with significant experience analyzing and interpreting data to drive strategy.

Requires a high level of comfort with online research, resources and social media tools.

Functional/Technical Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of legal and legal-related recruitment and job market is required.
  • Curiosity and eagerness to learn about changes in the legal market, particularly related to new and emerging areas of practice.
  • Highly results oriented. Proven ability to take initiative, develop and execute new approaches, programs and solutions and multi-task.
  • High degree of professionalism and customer-service orientation. Excellent listening skills and follow through.
  • Demonstrated past success working as an integral member of a dynamic team in a leadership role.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment in decision making and problem solving. Ability to earn trust. Integrity to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • High competence collaborating with diverse stakeholders. Positive outlook required.
  • Proven track record of success with various technology platforms.
  • Strong background in high volume relationship management, tracking and engagement preferred.
