The Yale Center for Environmental Law & Policy (YCELP), a collaborative initiative between Yale Law School and the Yale School of the Environment, pioneers innovative and analytically rigorous approaches to environmental decision-making across disciplines and scales. YCELP seeks a professional looking to help advance this agenda and shape the future of environmental law and policy through groundbreaking research, meaningful collaborations, and transformative opportunities.
The chosen candidate will be responsible for the programmatic administration and operations of the Center, including program development, project management, communications, supervision of the research teams, facilities, information systems, administrative activities, and the development of a long-term sustainability plan. The chosen candidate will work with the Faculty Director of the Center to provide substantial research, writing, and program support for his research, teaching, writing, and public engagement. The candidate must be able to succeed in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of and a keen interest in environmental law and policy.
Responsibilities include support all aspects of the YCELP Director's work within and outside the Center, including project management, research and logistical support, budget management, and coordination with YCELP staff, partners, advisory board, and university officials. Manage all aspects of the Center’s financial portfolio, including project budgets, grants, donations, as well as donor stewardship. Engage directly with the YCELP Board of Advisors and organize Board meetings and communications.
Hire, train, and supervise Center staff and student research assistants. Analyze personnel needs and allocate appropriate resources on an ongoing basis. Develop and facilitate the execution of a variety of convenings, ranging from campus-based activities to high profile, international workshops. Raise funds for the Center by identifying potential funders, drafting proposals, and filing timely reports.
Develop and manage the execution of a comprehensive, strategic communications plan to promote and disseminate information to a wide range of stakeholders. Perform substantial research, writing, and editing, including proofreading content for publications, articles, and journals for content, style, grammar, and factual accuracy. Envision, create, and write a wide variety of sensitive and high‑level written materials, and track copy through editing and production stages.
Occasional evening and weekend commitments.
Required Skills & Abilities

- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
- Ability to successfully manage interpersonal relations with a dynamic internal team and high-powered partners beyond the university.
- Knowledge of, and keen interest in, international trade policy and environmental law and policy.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills
Bachelor's in Environment with a Sustainability focus and/or professionals with a master’s degree or law degree.
Principal Responsibilities
- Oversees the advancement and growth of the program. Gives direction and leadership supporting the philosophy, mission, strategy, and annual goals and objectives. Assumes primary accountability for disseminating and publishing all program information to create public awareness and support of the program.
- Works closely with leadership, internal and external colleagues, and community residents to further develop and implement strategic plans.
- Identifies, solicits, and cultivates community partnerships and collaborations to assist in the development and growth of the program. Develops the metrics to identify and measure the success of the program. Responsible for measurements of grant success and related evaluation.
- Assists in identifying and evaluating potential future funding sources, and contributes to the submission of grants and contracts supporting the program, including the annual submission and writing of all content areas and budgetary sections of grant applications. Develops and manages the program’s operating budget.
- Develops the administrative infrastructure of the program. Manages human resource and administrative functions of the program, including staffing and hiring, supervision, performance development, counseling and discipline, if warranted. Oversees and manages information systems, facilities, and space needs.
- Investigates, identifies, implements, and oversees the maintenance of systems to gather, track, and report information to support the initiatives of the program. Tracks all program activities and regularly informs leadership of progress on each initiative. Recommends structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of missions, goals, and objectives.
- Initiates, designs, and manages the compilation of program communications; identifying outreach potential, and promoting philanthropic and collaborative support of the program. Contributes to the development and assists in the management of content on the program’s website and monitors all changes and additions to the editorial content.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in a related field and four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
