Programme and Impact Manager - Scientific Expeditions (Amazonia+10 Initiative & UK Research and Innovation)

Play a pivotal role in one of the most ambitious international research collaborations focused on the Brazilian Amazon. The Amazonia+10 Initiative, in partnership with UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), is supporting 22 major projects addressing critical knowledge gaps in the socio-biodiversity of the Amazon rainforest. This post will focus on overseeing the five UKRI-funded projects, ensuring their successful delivery, impact, and coordination.

Working with David Moreno Mateos and collaborating closely with partners in Brazil and the UK, you will monitor expedition implementation, track regulatory and ethical compliance, evaluate community engagement and inclusion strategies, and report on socio-environmental outcomes. You will help align projects through UK-based events and workshops, facilitate dialogue with researchers and policymakers, and contribute to a shared programme platform that maps expeditions and visualises impact while respecting open-access and Indigenous data sovereignty principles.

The role combines strategic oversight, impact facilitation, and hands-on coordination. You will engage directly with scientific teams, Indigenous and local communities, funders, and institutional partners, identifying opportunities to strengthen collaboration and expand development and policy impact in Amazonian Brazil. Some travel to Brazil will be required.

We are seeking an experienced programme manager with a strong background in environmental or related disciplines, experience in managing complex scientific initiatives—ideally in Latin America—and a track record of stakeholder engagement and regulatory oversight. Experience organising scientific expeditions and working in community-led research contexts is essential; Portuguese language skills are desirable.

This is a unique opportunity to support transformative, inclusive research in one of the world’s most critical ecosystems while strengthening international scientific collaboration and impact.

This post is fixed term until 31 January 2028 and offered on a part-time basis (0.5 FTE / 18.75 hours)
