Project Officer (Grade IV) (Permanent)

The Cambridge Archaeological Unit (CAU), part of the Department of Archaeology, is inviting applications for the role of Project Officer (Grade IV). The CAU is undertaking archaeological investigations on a range of excavations, evaluations, and surveys throughout East Anglia, including prehistoric landscapes, Iron Age and Roman settlements, and various urban sites.

The role involves directing medium and large-scale archaeological projects and teams, including landscape evaluations and large open area excavations. Project Officers are expected to manage projects from fieldwork through to post-excavation assessment, analysis, and publication, ensuring completion to a high standard in accordance with national and regional guidelines.

Key responsibilities include being aware of the settings and landscapes of assigned projects, managing large teams on site, implementing day-to-day health and safety requirements, maintaining a safe working environment, and performing duties in a resource-efficient manner, minimizing environmental impacts in line with University guidelines.

The position is full-time, with one post available. Applications must include a CV and cover letter, detailing full employment history and information on projects directed through all phases of analysis, report writing, and publication. The role holder is ideally in post by 1st December 2025.

This is a permanent post subject to a 6-month probation period. A health assessment is required upon acceptance. The closing date is 8th October 2025, with interviews on 14 October 2025.
