Psychologist
Position Summary:
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Psychologist for the Behavioral Research & Training Institute (BRTI) within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
The primary purpose of the Psychologist is to provide therapeutic interventions for the psychological and social needs of individuals served. The psychologist will provide psychological testing as required by the program to increase our understanding of the issues experienced by the individuals we serve. Supports the integration of evidence-based practices and provide therapeutic interventions based upon the principles of wellness and recovery.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Actively participates in and contributes to the smooth functioning of unit and demonstrates initiative and flexibility regarding work assignments.
- Effectively contributes to and supports an environment that enhances the positive self-image of individuals served and preserves their human dignity.
- Provides direct care, psychotherapeutic interventions/services in accordance with UBHC program/unit policies, accreditation standards, licensing regulations and billing requirements.
- Consistently provides individual, group and family therapy based on sound clinical judgment with empathy and concern.
- Participates in research activities, development, implementation, and evaluation of programs.
- Formulates assessments, treatment plans, treatment plan reviews, progress notes, and termination/discharge summaries.
- Takes a lead clinical role in the department, including the professional development of staff, students and interns.
- Facilitates peer group clinical supervision as assigned.
- Prepares effective clinical resources (i.e., group curricula) and training material for staff.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Ph.D., Psy.D., Ed.D. in Psychology with relevant experience that includes consultation, testing, program development/evaluation activities; minimum of two (2) years' experience, including graduate training, working in a behavioral health care or related setting.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Extensive sitting, standing, talking, listening, reading, and walking. Lifting requirements vary based on program.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: A Moderate noise. Subject to unpredictable situations and both medical and psychiatric crises. Possible exposure to individuals exhibiting assaultive behaviors. Possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens that require use of personal protective equipment. May be exposed to varying and extreme temperatures. Individuals in community programs may be exposed to varied community environments.
