Purchasing Assistant
Duties of a Purchasing Assistant may include the following but are not limited to:
- Enter departmental requisitions into the E-Req system system and generate purchase orders in accordance with established procedures. File and maintain related documentation.
- Perform a variety of administrative duties as needed, including filing, scanning, and maintaining all purchasing documentation within the shared network system.
- Provide a wide range of administrative and professional support services, as assigned, to department heads and administrative officers within the LISVH.
- Assist in resolving funding-related issues, coordinate efforts to minimize the lapse of funds, and address Accounts Payable concerns in a timely and efficient manner.
- Assist with organizing and maintaining inventories of medical and non-medical supplies, including establishing par levels and supporting scheduled supply distribution.
- Develop standing orders for all items used on a repetitive basis.
- Assists with the inspection and accurate receipts of all incoming materials for the Home in accordance with established procedures.
- Sorts and delivers mail daily throughout the facility, as needed, and perform other miscellaneous duties as related to Purchasing and Central Supply.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with all levels of administration and departmental staff.
- Other duties as assigned and related to procurement by the Director of Purchasing
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Associate's Degree in Business or related field and two years administrative experience. Strong computer and customer service skills as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field. Experience working with purchase orders, requisitions, invoices and vendor contracts.

Working Conditions:
Working conditions may involve exposure to infectious disease, blood, body fluids and/or tissue as well as other unpleasant elements such as accidents, injuries and illness. May be exposed to and be required to handle varying unpredictable, emergency and crisis situations. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.
Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:
- The selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation.
- Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from the Long Island State Veterans Home Employee Health Department.
- Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
- Provide a copy of the required license(s)/certificate(s).

- The LISVH is a 24/7 skilled nursing facility. As such, all positions are subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary to meet the operating needs of the facility.
- This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.
